Equalities
Black, Asian & Ethnic Minorities in Unite
Race equality is a key priority in the workplace and beyond. Unite campaigns for fair treatment for all and recognises the responsibility of everyone in the Union to challenge racism in the workplace, the union and our society.
BAEM workers face higher levels of unemployment and racism at work and Unite Race Forward Campaign action plans are targeted at union reps to support them in tackling racism in the workplace.
We must all work together to promote race equality and ensure that BAEM members continue to play a key role in our union and to increase their involvement at every level.
By joining Unite you too can get involved in achieving this aim.

Women in Unite
International Women's Day - 8 March 2019

March 8th was declared International Women’s Day by the United Nations in 1975, but the idea of an international day of women’s solidarity goes back to 1910, when women from fourteen countries meeting in Copenhagen heard a proposal from German socialist and feminist Clara Zetkin that an annual International Women’s Day be held in each country, allowing women to voice local as well as general demands.
Unite represents a third of a million working women across industries and services in a wide range of jobs.
Unite welcomes progress on women’s equality that has been struggled for and achieved, but is concerned at continuing discrimination, unequal pay, harassment and violence against women, and the under-representation of women in leadership at all levels.
By joining Unite you too can get involved in achieving equality for the diversity of women of all ages.

Lesbian Gay Bisexual And Trans in Unite
LGBT equality in the workplace continues to be hard fought for.
Many LGBT workers face harassment and discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.
We are raising awareness and campaigning for LGBT equality, and encourage LGBT workers to join and become active in our union.
